Author's Notes: I had a lot of fun rereading Gaiden so I could write this. Sadly, my betas had gone to bed by the time I finished this. Any mistakes are mine and mine alone. Feedback is more than welcome, be it comment or crit.




Konzen wondered if dragons always had lips that felt like they would burn their lovers. Goujun was subject to the laws of Heaven, so Konzen knew he wouldn’t die from the fire. Was it crazy for him to compare it to that? It was more cliché, but Konzen couldn’t give a damn at the moment.

He wished he remembered how it happened. He knew that the hallway was a dangerous place to do this. Neither one would – this was a bold move that Kenren might try to pull. But Kenren’s lips were for Tenpou only, and Konzen knew by instinct that it wouldn’t feel like this.

They were both men of duty – men devoted to their jobs. Konzen hated the paperwork, denied that he minded caring for the monkey, and hated not knowing what was going on. There was something happening in Heaven. Goujun knew more than he. Goujun was not one to be questioned if he was bored with his job.

The kiss was broken; Konzen gasped. Heaven was always warm, but as air traveled back into his mouth, it felt almost cold. The contrast in temperatures of cold seeping into heat made him light-headed. Did all dragons kiss like this, or was it only kings?

Konzen recognized the swagger in the footsteps approaching from around the corner. Goujun did as well, and stepped out of Konzen’s personal space. It was then, and only then, that he felt like he could finally breathe. And sure enough, it was Kenren who appeared a moment later.

Kenren is a General because he earned the position, even if his behavior has threatened to get him fired more than once.

Silence, then. “I’ll expect that document that we discussed by the end of the day, Konzen Doji.”

Konzen nodded. “Of course.”

Author's Notes: Betaed by Eliza. I was in an experimental mood.

The challenge in kissing Sanzo is that one cannot simply kiss Sanzo. One cannot approach him possessed of passion, and one certainly cannot approach him on a casual whim. One must strategize, while allowing for moods in which any approach at all is ill-advised, no matter how glorious Sanzo might have looked earlier when drawing his gun on youkai attackers and pulling the trigger precisely, ruthlessly, until there was nobody left to shoot. Except any fool who tried to kiss him in that moment, and while one cannot help being a fool on occasion, Gojyo is much more forgiving, so one tries to save those moments for him.

No, one must plan out kissing Sanzo as though planning a lesson for a bright but difficult student, and if one is no longer a teacher, one should get some use out of one's ghosts. So one plans, and prepares, and ignores Gojyo's opinion that planning misses the point. Gojyo, one is well aware, has not kissed Sanzo, and therefore his opinion on the matter is not exactly expert.

"You haven't kissed him yet, either," Gojyo points out, "but when you do, give him this."

Kissing Gojyo, or being kissed by him, is everything kissing Sanzo is unlikely to be. Except arousing. That's a trait one is certain both kisses would have in common.

Unfortunately, Gojyo's kiss causes one to completely forsake one's plan, so when one passes Sanzo's open door to see him reading the newspaper, one succumbs to the urge to go inside, go to him, take the cigarette from his mouth and taste him. His smoke and Gojyo's mingle in one's mouth, the combination is so intriguing that it takes a moment to register Sanzo hasn't pulled away.

One realizes one owes Gojyo an apology. A kiss should do.

"Shouldn't you be enjoying yourself, your majesty?" he asked. Upon victory against Soushu, Shinou said they should celebrate, and yet late that night the Daikenja found his maou making notes in a journal. Military reports. To-do lists. Daikenja wasn't at all surprised.

"Tomorrow we start building a nation, Daikenja," Shinou said. "There are several things that need my immediate attention."

Daikenja nodded, for it was true. Shinou had arisen as the Mazokus' leader for more than his power, and not a soul could deny that. "But what of yourself? Your people want you to have a good time too. You are the one who sealed Soushu, so that we might have a country."

Shinou gave his great sage a small smile. "A maou is a servant of the people. I have no regrets."

"Then the servant should follow the rules too, should he not?" Daikenja smiled back. "You told your soldiers to celebrate this evening. Will you break one of your first decrees?"

To that, Shinou laughed. "I am not surprised hearing that from you. What do you propose?"

Daikenja drew the tent flaps closed and tied them shut. "That both you and I obey the law, in our own way. You weren't specific when you said we should 'enjoy ourselves.'" He moved to sit across Shinou, and there was no protest when the journal and pen were taken away. With his writing hand freed, Shinou wove his fingers into black hair. The rest needed no prompting, they met halfway for the first of many kisses.

Daikenja knew that Shinou was right in his concern for the welfare of their country. But for now, the farthest reaching thought in Daikenja's mind was how he would have trouble brushing his hair in the morning. It was time for them to celebrate.

Title: Heat Exchange

It's to share warmth more than anything else, of which there's not much after they've been sucking ice cubes all morning in the bitter February wind. Still, there's some, lurking in the crevices of Yoochun's mouth, and Jaejoong would chase it if Yoochun weren't giving it to him, unthinkingly, habitually. He's taken Yoochun's face between his cold hands, and Yoochun's retaliated by burrowing his own cold hands up the back of Jaejoong's jacket, pressing them against the small of Jaejoong's back with only the barrier of a too-thin shirt. But Yoochun pulls Jaejoong closer when he shivers, and so the hands are allowed to stay.

Yoochun tastes like mint; they haven't been allowed to eat since being brought to the set. Food generates heat generates steam, so all they get is the ice between takes, to keep their breath from showing. They all suck it dutifully, but already Jaejoong knows how little Yoochun likes the cold. He's not fond of it himself. So he hunts Yoochun down while they wait for the director to decide how to frame the next shot, while Changmin and Junsu bounce around the set to keep warm, and Yunho gets a costume adjustment.

Yoochun's withdrawn beyond the circle of equipment and crew, still a little shy with them, a little uncertain. Jaejoong knows he'll get over that, but for now Jaejoong doesn't mind going to him. They can kiss out of everybody's way, Yoochun's soft skin chilled against his palms, bracing against his back.

Even as he leans down to kiss Rinrei, Homura tells himself to stop, to pull back. He should walk far away. If he doesn’t, he’ll ruin her life

But before he can leave, Rinrei has tilted her head up, and is kissing him, gentle and shy. Her lips are soft and warm, and Homura can’t remember ever being this happy. He wraps his arms around her, drawing her closer. She runs her fingers through his hair.

After what feels like both a second and an eternity, she pulls away. She looks down, but Homura can still see the blush on her cheeks. He opens his mouth to say something, to apologize, to beg her forgiveness, but she speaks before he can.

“That…that was nice.” She giggles, embarrassed. “I suppose that’s a silly thing to say.”

“No,” he says quickly, “you’re right. It was nice.” He’s smiling now, a grin that most would think him incapable of.

She takes his hands in hers. “Homura…will you stay with me forever?”

He should tell her no. He shouldn’t give her false hopes. He should explain the danger, the risk.

But then he realizes that she knows all that. Rinrei doesn’t want truth; she wants something to believe in.

“Yes, I’ll stay with you forever. I’ll never leave you.”

She sighs happily and hugs him. “Kiss me again?” she asks.

He kisses her deeply and passionately, much more sure of himself than before.

They may not have forever, but they do have right now.
